Sanriku coho harvest starts with prices up 7.8%

Harvest of coho in Sanriku, Miyagi Prefecture, which started middle of March, totaled 115 tons at the end of March, a 4.5 percent decrease from the same period a year earlier, while average prices per kilo climbed 7.8 percent to \651.


Harvest will shift into full swing in May.


Total harvest volume of coho salmon in Sanriku in 2007 was 9,448 tons, worth \4.1 billion. Sanriku is the largest coho-pruducing center of Japan, which accounts for 90 percent of the total output.
