Yaizu Suisan High School: New Training Ship To Be Completed in May

April 16, 2009

Yaizu Prefectural High School is constructing its fourth training ship "Yaizu" at Miho Zosen, which is slated to finish late May. The new ship is a high-sea pole and line bonito fishing boat, following a predecessor boat that was constructed eighteen years ago. The new boat is a 550-ton size, slightly larger than the past ones; vessel speed 15 knots; and the capacity of ten officers, ten staff members, four instructors, and 44 students.

The ship is made from steel with a single-layer deck and forecastle. Its screw is a large low-speed rotation fixed pitch propeller. It is a steady and seaworthy vessel, made with precaution for not affecting fisheries training, observations, and research operations when drifting or going dead slow. The number of classroom was increased from one to two.
