Indian Seafood Becomes Brand with New Logo

The Marine Products Export Development Authority (MPEDA) in India has produced its own logo to promote the quality and safety of Indian marine products. In line with the release of logo-marked shrimp products in the Japanese market before anybody else, MPEDA Chairperson Leena Nair and the Seafood Exporters Association of India President Anwar Ibrahim visited Japan and stopped by JUSCO Shinagawa Seaside Store on Oct 5.

At a news briefing after the visit, Ms. Nair delineated shrimp aquaculture and the current situation of exports and future plans for shrimp exports in India, as well as rigorous quality management goals.

“Shrimp exports to Japan have been in decline since around 2000. Regardless, we are eager to increase the amount of exports mainly of logo-marked, added-value products, to Japan," she said.

Additionally, pertaining to the logo, she expressed her anticipation: “Japan is the first place to sell products with the logo. We intend to market them to the US after Japan. Our target products include, other than shrimp, added-value products of all fish varieties. With this logo, we hope to heighten the recognition of the brand, and expect a 20-30 percent increase in seafood exports in the future."
